Fāṭima al-Zahrā' — The Lady of Paradise

📜 فَاطِمَةُ الزَّهْرَاء — Fāṭima al-Zahrā', Lady of the Women of Paradise

فَاطِمَةُ بَضْعَةٌ مِنِّي، فَمَنْ أَغْضَبَهَا أَغْضَبَنِي

"Fāṭima is a part of me. Whoever angers her, angers me."

📖 Introduction

Fāṭima bint Muḥammad رضي الله عنها is the beloved daughter of the Prophet ﷺ and Khadīja, the only one whose lineage survived. She is the mother of Ḥasan and Ḥusayn, the masters of the youth of Paradise. Her rank is so high that she is called "Sayyidat Nisā' al-'Ālamīn" (Lady of the Women of the Worlds).

Before 'Alī, several illustrious Companions asked for her hand:

  • Abū Bakr — The Prophet ﷺ replied: "I await Allah's command."

'Alī said: "I had nothing except my armor. I sold it for 400 dirhams and brought it to the Prophet ﷺ."

'Āisha said: "I have not seen anyone who resembled the Prophet ﷺ more in speech than Fāṭima."

'Āisha narrates: "When Fāṭima entered, the Prophet ﷺ would stand for her, kiss her forehead, and seat her in his place. And when the Prophet ﷺ entered upon her, she would do the same."

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Fāṭima is a part of me (Fāṭima baḍ'atun minnī). Whoever angers her, angers me."

1️⃣ Lady of the Women of Paradise

The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best women of Paradise are: Khadīja bint Khuwaylid, Fāṭima bint Muḥammad, Maryam bint 'Imrān, and Āsiya wife of Pharaoh."

2️⃣ Lady of the Women of This Ummah

The Prophet ﷺ said to Fāṭima: "Would you not be pleased to be the lady of the believing women — or of the women of this Ummah?"

3️⃣ First to Rejoin the Prophet ﷺ

The Prophet ﷺ told Fāṭima during his final illness: "Jibrīl used to review the Quran with me once a year, and this year he did so twice. I think my time has come. You will be the first of my family to join me." She wept, then he said: "Would you not be pleased to be the lady of the women of Paradise?" Then she smiled.

⚔️ The Death of the Prophet ﷺ and Fāṭima's Grief

1️⃣ The Final Secret

'Āisha narrates: "During his final illness, the Prophet ﷺ called Fāṭima and whispered something to her. She wept. Then he whispered something else and she smiled."

After the death of the Prophet ﷺ, 'Āisha asked: "What did he tell you?"

Fāṭima replied: "The first time, he told me he was going to die. So I wept. The second time, he told me I would be the first of his family to join him and that I would be the lady of the women of Paradise. So I smiled."

Fāṭima said after his death: "O my father! He answered the call of his Lord. O my father! Paradise of Firdaws is his abode. O my father! We announce his death to Jibrīl."

"After the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I found no joy."
