Introduction

"Say: If you truly love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."

Surah Āl 'Imrān (3:31)

This verse establishes a clear equation: loving Allah requires following the Prophet ﷺ. The Seerah is not merely a story to read, but a model to emulate in every aspect of our lives.

The scholars of the Salaf said:

"The Sunnah is Noah's Ark: whoever boards it is saved, and whoever stays behind is drowned."

2.1 Truthfulness (الصدق)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Be truthful, for truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man continues to be truthful and pursues truthfulness until he is recorded with Allah as a truthful one (siddiq)."

  • Never lie, even in jest
  • Keep promises, even if difficult
  • Be honest in business
  • Acknowledge mistakes

2.2 Generosity (الكرم)

Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) reported:

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the most generous of people, and he was most generous in Ramadan when Jibril would meet him. Jibril would meet him every night of Ramadan to study the Quran with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was more generous in doing good than the blowing wind."

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"The strong man is not the one who wrestles, but the strong man is the one who controls himself when angry."

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"The best among you are the best to their wives, and I am the best among you to my wives."

When Al-Aqra' ibn Habis saw the Prophet ﷺ kissing his grandson, he said: "I have ten children and I have never kissed any of them." The Prophet ﷺ replied:

"He who does not show mercy will not be shown mercy."

3.3 Toward Parents and Extended Family

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"The one who severs family ties will not enter Paradise."

"While a man was walking on a path, he became very thirsty. He found a well and went down into it to drink. When he came out, he saw a dog panting and licking the moist earth from thirst. The man said: 'This dog is as thirsty as I was.' He went down again, filled his shoe with water, and gave the dog a drink. Allah thanked him for that and forgave his sins."

5.1 Sincerity (الإخلاص)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Actions are judged by intentions, and each person will have what they intended."

5.3 Patience and Gratitude (الصبر والشكر)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"How wonderful is the affair of the believer: everything is good for him, and this is only for the believer. If happiness reaches him, he gives thanks and it is good for him. If hardship reaches him, he is patient and it is good for him."

5.4 Constant Repentance (التوبة)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"By Allah! I seek Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him more than seventy times a day."

Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 6307

Prophetic formula of repentance:

"أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَىُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ"

"I seek forgiveness from Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and I repent to Him."

Imam ash-Shafi'i (رحمه الله) said:

"Any statement I have made or will make, if it contradicts what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, then throw my words against the wall."

May we be among those who love the Prophet ﷺ, who follow him in this life, and who drink from his hand at the Hawd on the Day of Resurrection.

"Whoever revives my Sunnah truly loves me, and whoever loves me will be with me in Paradise."
